Kavrepalanchok, commonly known as Kavre, is a hill district east of Kathmandu Valley, home to the historic Newar towns of Dhulikhel, Banepa, and Panauti. These towns, located on the ancient trade route to Tibet, feature stunning traditional architecture, Durbar squares, and centuries-old temples. Dhulikhel is internationally famous for its sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayan range, visible from a single viewpoint on clear days. The district is predominantly inhabited by Newar, Tamang, and Brahmin-Chhetri communities, with a rich blend of Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Agriculture, particularly tea cultivation, fruit farming (especially oranges and kiwi), and dairy production are key economic activities. The district also hosts the Banepa-based Kathmandu University, contributing to education and research. Traditional Newar culture, including the Sindur Jatra and other festivals, remains vibrant. The district's proximity to Kathmandu makes it a popular tourist destination.
