Lamjung (लमजुङ) Overview
Lamjung is a scenic hill district in Gandaki Province, considered the heartland of the Gurung people, with the densest Gurung population in Nepal. Besisahar, the headquarters, is the starting point of the famous Annapurna Circuit trek, one of the world's most renowned long-distance treks. The district features the stunning Marsyangdi River valley, traditional Gurung villages like Gorkha (in neighboring district) and the historic Tarkeshwar Temple. Lamjung's landscape ranges from subtropical lowlands to alpine peaks, including parts of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. The district is also home to the pioneering Annapurna Rural Development Project, which has transformed local agriculture and community development. Lamjung is famous for producing skilled Gurkha soldiers and talented trekkers, guides, and porters who work in the global adventure tourism industry.
