Manang (मनाङ) Overview
Manang is Nepal's least populous district, a remote, high-altitude trans-Himalayan region situated in the rain shadow of the Annapurna massif. The district is a key segment of the famous Annapurna Circuit trek, with Manang village serving as a crucial acclimatization point for trekkers heading to Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). Manang is famous for the Ice Lake, Gangapurna Lake, and the stunning views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. The district is predominantly inhabited by Manange people, a Tibetan-influenced ethnic group speaking the Manang language, along with Gurung communities. Manang's traditional trans-Himalayan culture includes polyandry, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and unique architectural styles adapted to high-altitude living. The local economy revolves around tourism, with traditional shops, bakeries, and hotels catering to trekkers.
