Myagdi (म्याग्दी) Overview
Myagdi is a mountainous district in Gandaki Province, dominated by the majestic Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), the world's seventh-highest peak. The district is a key segment of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri trekking circuits, offering some of Nepal's most spectacular mountain scenery. Beni, the headquarters, is a bustling town at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Myagdi Khola rivers. The district is predominantly inhabited by Magar, Chhantyal, and Brahmin-Chhetri communities, with rich cultural traditions. The Poon Hill viewpoint, though technically in Myagdi's vicinity, offers iconic sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Myagdi is also home to the famous Tatopani hot springs and the traditional Magar villages that preserve ancient Nepalese architecture. Agriculture, particularly potato farming, animal husbandry, and remittances from overseas workers are the economic mainstays. The district's natural beauty and trekking opportunities make it a growing tourism destination.
